E.C. Investigates Spanish Energy Law

Law360, New York (May 3, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Just one week after clearing German utility E.On’s bid for Spanish energy company Endesa, the European Commission has launched an investigation into an effort by the Spanish government to extend the powers of its electricity and gas regulator.

The E.C. has requested information on recent legislation that requires any company that plans to acquire more than 10% of a company in a regulated industry to first obtain government clearance.
