Ex-SEC Chair, Investors Urge Political Spending Disclosures

Law360, New York (April 21, 2015, 4:43 PM EDT) -- A group of investors and business leaders including former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair William Donaldson and Oregon State Treasurer Ted Wheeler called on current SEC Chair Mary Jo White on Tuesday, urging her to require public companies to disclose their political contributions.

In their letter, the investors say that without such rules, they are unable to assess the corporate legal, reputational and operational risks that come with corporate political spending. As a result, shareholders are unable to properly exercise their ownership rights of corporate oversight, the letter says.
