Chevron Tangles With NGO Over Ecuador Case

Law360, New York (August 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Amid Chevron Inc.'s long-running environmental legal fight in Ecuador, the nonprofit Amazon Defense Coalition warned industry analysts and the public on Friday that the company has not been entirely upfront with shareholders about its liability in a case the coalition calls the “Rainforest Chernobyl.”

The nongovernment organization claims that the company's recent U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission 10-Q filing contained “obfuscations” regarding damages a court-appointed expert said could reach $16 billion.
