House Passes Paycheck Fairness Act

Law360, New York (August 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday that aims to provide legal recourse for victims of gender-based wage discrimination by amending the Equal Pay Act to block employers from retaliating against workers who share salary information.

The House passed the Paycheck Fairness Act, H.R. 1338, late Thursday with a vote of 247-178. The bill would also increase penalties against employers who pay workers differently based on their gender.
