U.S., D.C. Settle City Hospital's False Medicare Claims

Law360, New York (August 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The District of Columbia and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have reached a settlement that resolves a decade-old investigation into allegedly spurious Medicare claims submitted by a Washington public psychiatric hospital that resulted in $12 million in overpayments.

According to the agreement, announced Tuesday, the District of Columbia will forgo over $11 million in suspended Medicare claims seized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a wing of the HHS, since October 2006.
