EU Extends Wait For Apple, Starbucks Tax Decisions
Law360, New York (May 5, 2015, 1:27 PM EDT) -- The European Union won't meet a June deadline for determining whether several multinationals including Apple Inc. and Starbucks Corp. received illegal tax rulings from member countries, after encountering roadblocks in getting information from the countries involved, EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said Tuesday.
The long-awaited decisions will judge whether tax rulings that Luxembourg, Ireland and the Netherlands gave to Apple, Starbucks, Amazon.com Inc. and Fiat SpA gave them unfair economic advantages. However, Vestager said the information gathering process has been challenging and time-consuming since regulators have not been receiving necessary information upon first or even second requests.
