J&J Unit Recalls 44,000 Vials Of Anemia Drug

Law360, New York (August 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Ortho Biotech Products LP is voluntarily recalling its blockbuster anemia drug Procrit, after identifying cracks in the necks of a few vials during post-manufacturing inspection.

Even vials with small cracks might not be sterile and shouldn't be injected, the Ortho Biotech said in a statement announcing the recall on Tuesday.

The company is sending out notices to authorized distributors, doctors and patients, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
