Ice Maker Civil Cases Still Face Slick Surface

Law360, New York (August 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A deepening U.S. Department of Justice investigation into the packaged ice industry has spawned a flotilla of civil actions filed by bars and retail outlets claiming they paid artificially high prices.

With mounting evidence of a conspiracy and a guilty plea from one of the three largest producers of packaged ice already in the bag, federal regulators appear to have a “slam dunk” case, according to some antitrust lawyers.
