High Court To Weigh Wal-Mart's Union Shutdown

Law360 (August 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a move that could have implications for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in the U.S., the Supreme Court of Canada has agreed to hear a challenge to the retail giant's 2005 decision to close a Quebec store that had obtained union certification.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court granted the employees' request to hear the case, a potential complication for Wal-Mart, which has long opposed unionization.
