Four Years On, Europe's Leniency Law A Success

Law360, New York (May 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After an internal audit at Swedish technology firm ABB Group uncovered evidence of a cartel in the market for certain circuit breakers, the firm contacted the European Commission to help put a stop to the illegal practice.

Regardless of ABB’s possible involvement in the suspected cartel, it will enjoy full immunity while its rivals in France, Germany and Austria are raided by authorities, thanks to the E.C.’s wildly successful leniency program for whistleblowers.

There seems to be no slowing the formation of illegal cartels among businesses...
