Code Writer Settles Copyright Case For $3M

Law360, New York (August 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Michigan software writer settled his trademark infringement case against hospital information technology provider Healthcare Management Systems Inc. on Thursday for more than $3 million.

Bradley L. Smith of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, software writer Joel Goldman's lawyer, described the outcome Monday as “classic David versus Goliath” and said it was one of the largest settlements ever won on behalf of an individual plaintiff in a software copyright case.
