Enviro Group Cries Foul Over Illegal Logging In Peru

Law360, New York (June 4, 2015, 4:32 PM EDT) -- An environmental advocacy group on Thursday called on the U.S. and Peruvian governments to improve efforts to tackle illegal logging in the Andean nation, claiming the pair have failed to enforce groundbreaking environmental provisions included in the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement.

The Environmental Investigation Agency said in a statement that the two countries have not followed through on "laudable and innovative" provisions to improve forest governance included in the free trade agreement and its annex on forest sector governance. Illegal logging in Peru remains a serious and pressing concern, the EIA said.
