EPA Wants $13M Upgrade For Mich. Sugar Co. Plant

Law360, New York (August 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is seeking court approval of a $13 million court-mandated equipment upgrade and $210,000 civil penalty as part of its settlement with the Michigan Sugar Co., a nonprofit, farmer-owned sugar beet processor, over alleged violations of the Clean Air Act.

The U.S. attorney's office filed a motion to enter the proposed consent decree with the sugar processor Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan after the proposal received no comments while pending in the federal register....
