Portugal Jumps On Clemency Bandwagon

Law360, New York (May 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Taking a page from the U.S. model, Portugal's parliament has voted to pass a clemency law designed to entice cartel members to turn in their co-conspirators, according to a spokesperson for the country’s competition authority.

The legislative body approved the measure earlier this week, seeking to break up the illegal cartels that continue to threaten competition in the marketplace.

The new clemency law is based on an initiative presented to the cabinet in April by Portugal's competition authority, also known as the AdC.
