FDA Issues Byetta Warning In Wake Of Deaths

Law360, New York (August 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that stronger warnings will be added to the label of Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s Byetta after reports of two deaths linked to the diabetes medication.

The FDA said on Monday it had received reports of six cases of severe pancreatitis in patients taking Byetta — a drug given by injection twice a day to adults with Type 2 diabetes — and was working with Aylin to add stronger and more prominent warnings to the product label.
