WIPO Patent Reforms to Take Effect on Jan. 1, 2004

Law360, New York (December 26, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- Patent applications in multiple countries will be simplified on Jan. 1 with a a series of reforms of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) said Wednesday.

Among the reforms are a new simplified system of designating countries in which patent protection is sought and an enhanced search and preliminary examination system.
