Microsoft, NEC Share Patents To Accelerate R&D

Law360, New York (May 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In order to inject a speedy boost into its development of network solutions, Microsoft Corp. has been forming cross-licensing agreements with Japanese companies. On Wednesday, the company struck a deal with Japan’s NEC Corp over a broad range of patents.

The intellectual property sharing schema is supposed to spur a faster development of technology, specifically in network products for corporate customers.

"This cross-licensing agreement would facilitate detailed cooperation, which is on an engineer to engineer basis," said Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer at a joint press...
