Private Equity Firms Ask Judge To Toss Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (August 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- JPMorgan Chase & Co., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Blackstone Group LP and a slew of other private equity firms facing a proposed antitrust class action over joint bidding procedures for leveraged buyouts have asked a judge to toss the complaint, saying the case is nothing more than a securities claim.

In a motion filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, more than a dozen firms targeted in the case said securities laws preempted the plaintiffs' antitrust claims.
