Federal Employment Bias Suits Dropping: Study

Law360 (September 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Federal employment discrimination lawsuits have been on a steady decline in the last four years, after going through a strong rise through most of the 1990s, a study by the U.S. Department of Justice has found.

The number of employment bias complaints filed in district courts dropped to just over 14,300 in 2006, down from a high of almost 23,800 in 1997, the DOJ's Bureau of Justice Statistics concluded. The study of trends in civil rights claims asserted in federal courts was released Friday.
