Cholestech, Roche Settle on Cholesterol Kit

Law360, New York (December 30, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- Cholestech Corp., a California-based maker of blood testing products, said it would pay $7 million to Roche Diagnostics Corp. as part of a licensing agreement to settle litigation over patents related to measuring HDL cholesterol.

As part of the settlement, Roche will grant Cholestech an irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license for its patents related to HDL cholesterol. Cholestech will pay Roche an ongoing royalty that will be applied to only the HDL portion of cholesterol test cassettes sold by Cholestech.
