EU Revamps Pesticide Residue Rules

Law360, New York (September 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In an effort to ensure food safety, the European Commission has implemented a regulation revising and simplifying the rules governing the maximum residue levels for pesticides.

The new regulation, announced Monday by the commission and the European Food Safety Authority, will “ensure food safety for all consumers and allow traders and importers to do business smoothly as confusion over dealing with 27 lists of national [maximum residue levels] is eliminated,” the EC said.
