EPA Blocks $220M Pump Project On Miss. Delta

Law360, New York (September 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has pulled the plug on a $220 million U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood-control project on the Mississippi Delta, finding that it would have a negative effect on the environment.

The EPA said Tuesday that it decided to exercise its discretion under the Clean Water Act to veto projects that use waterways as a disposal site for fill material when the project will have an “unacceptable” impact on water supplies, wildlife or recreation.
