Mouse-Pad Patent Term Can't Be Grandfathered

Law360, New York (September 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that the inventor of a thigh-mounting mouse pad is not entitled to retroactive protection under an old set of patent term-length rules and has dismissed the suit in favor of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia signed the order Tuesday after deciding that Thomas D. Sykes' patent did not qualify for the old rule set.
