Judge Tosses Plea Deal For Broadcom Founder

Law360, New York (September 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge on Monday tossed out a plea deal for Broadcom Corp. co-founder Henry Samueli — who has admitted lying to regulators during a probe of stock options backdating at the company — saying the deal was too lenient for a crime that "could warrant a significant prison sentence."

Ruling from the bench, U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney promised to issue a final order later Monday, but postponed the sentencing and scheduled a hearing for Sept. 29.
