House To Vote On Bill Giving SEC More Authority

Law360, New York (September 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives deferred a vote Tuesday on legislation to give the Securities and Exchange Commission broader enforcement authority, but is expected to decide on the bipartisan measure this week.

Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski, D-Pa., moved Tuesday to pass the bill, which will amend the federal securities laws to give the SEC authority to impose fines, as well as sanction individuals for misconduct at regulated entities, even if they're no longer associated with the company.
