AHA Urges Skepticism In $54B Anthem-Cigna Merger Review

Law360, New York (August 6, 2015, 4:52 PM EDT) -- The American Hospital Association is attacking Anthem Inc.'s proposed $54 billion acquisition of Cigna Corp., telling the U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday that the deal may be hopelessly anti-competitive no matter how it is structured.

In a 13-page letter to the DOJ's Antitrust Division, the AHA offered a detailed analysis of how the Anthem-Cigna tie-up could play out in markets around the country, and it preemptively rebutted likely arguments in favor of the deal.
