Judge Denies Bids To Toss Stevens’ Corruption Case

Law360, New York (September 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens’ lawyers have lost bids to toss the criminal case alleging the U.S. Senate’s longest-serving Republican lied about receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts from oil industry contractor VECO Corp.

Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Wednesday brushed aside last-minute motions to throw out the case and cleared the way for the proceeding to head to trial this month.
