AmEx, Visa Sued Over Prepaid Cards

Law360, New York (September 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- American Express Co. and Visa USA Inc. are facing a patent infringement lawsuit over their sale of prepaid debit cards.

In a complaint filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, patent-holding company SpendingMoney LLC accuses the credit card agencies of infringing a patent covering a data processing method for configuring and monitoring prepaid debit cards through a host credit card.
