House Approves Bill Aiming To Boost SEC Powers

Law360, New York (September 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that aims to strengthen investor protections and boost the enforcement powers of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Securities Act of 2008, H.R. 6513, was approved Thursday by a bipartisan voice vote.

Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski, D-Pa., who introduced the bill, touted a provision of the bill that raises maximum fines for those who commit securities fraud.
