3M Files Suit Over Document Scan Technology

Law360 (June 8, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The patents for a device that automatically detects if documents have been altered or tampered with have become the focus of a lawsuit filed by 3M Co. against risk-assessment software company AssureTec Systems Inc.

The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware by 3M subsidiary 3M Innovative Properties Company, claims that 3M was issued two patents for the technology, with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granting the first in 2000 and the second in 2003.
