PTAB Invalidates ClearPlay's Media Filtering Patent

By Erin Coe (August 17, 2015, 8:43 PM EDT) -- The Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Friday held that ClearPlay Inc.'s patent for identifying multimedia content for filtering was invalid due to obviousness, handing rival CustomPlay LLC a win in its inter partes review of the patent.

In a final written decision in an America Invents Act inter partes review, the board held that CustomPlay was able to show that all the claims of ClearPlay's patent, U.S. Patent Number 8,117,282 B2, were unpatentable as obvious.
