FDA Searches For Tainted Chinese Baby Formula

Law360, New York (September 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Amid reports of over 1,000 children in China being sickened by baby formula tainted with the chemical additive melamine, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating whether any Chinese formula is being sold illegally in the United States.

No Chinese baby formula manufacturers have FDA approval to sell their products in the U.S., but the agency said some formula from China may have been shipped to the U.S. illegally for sale in specialty markets that serve the Asian community.
