Disbarred Lawyer Can't Hide Behind Ch. 7: 1st Circ.

Law360, New York (September 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A disgraced attorney who filed for Chapter 7 after being sanctioned by New Hampshire's highest court cannot avoid punishment for professional misconduct by resorting to bankruptcy, a federal appeals court has ruled.

In a decision Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit said lawyer William McNeir Richmond, who was ordered to pay the costs incurred by the state Supreme Court's professional conduct committee in bringing proceedings against him, could not so easily discharge the debt.
