Online Competition Still Our Turf, FTC Says

Law360 (June 14, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As Congress considers possible changes to the Communications Act, the Federal Trade Commission is pushing to keep jurisdiction over most Internet access services, including telecommunications companies that have typically fallen outside its realm.

“We are concerned … that any explicit or implicit diminution of the FTC’s existing jurisdiction would restrict our ability to continue to play the integral role we have in protecting consumers from harm,” FTC Commissioner William E. Kovacic testified Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
