DOE Pledges $8B To Guarantee Clean Coal Financing

Law360, New York (September 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy has announced that it is setting aside $8 billion in federal loan guarantees to support projects at coal-based power generation and industrial gasification facilities that use advanced technologies to avoid or reduce emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases.

The clean coal loan guarantee program is intended to encourage the development of new and significantly improved energy technologies and reduce the nation's reliance on foreign sources of energy, the DOE said Monday.
