Judge Tallies $3M Award In DMCA Lawsuit

Law360, New York (September 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has awarded Stockwire Research Group Inc. approximately $3 million under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act and has held the defendants liable for the copyright circumvention caused by each unauthorized viewing of an online documentary they posted on YouTube.

Judge Patricia A. Seitz of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida assessed the award for numerous copyright claims stemming from the unauthorized dissemination of a video on YouTube, where it was viewed at least 11,786 times.
