Former HealthSouth VP Gets 8 Years

Law360, New York (June 16, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The sole conviction stemming from the massive fraud at HealthSouth Corp. has resulted in an eight-year prison sentence for Hannibal “Sonny” Crumpler, a former vice president at the medical services provider.

Crumpler was sentenced Thursday in a federal court in Birmingham, Alabama. Prosecutors asked that Crumpler receive 15 years; Crumpler’s attorneys had lobbied for probation.

The sentence will be appealed.
