Ex-Exec Allegedly Faked Cancer To Avoid SEC

Law360, New York (September 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The former head of regulatory affairs at Biopure Corp. has been criminally indicted on charges that he lied about having terminal colon cancer to avoid discovery in a case brought against him by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Howard P. Richman, 57, was charged Wednesday with obstruction of justice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. If convicted, Richman faces up to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
