EPA Fines Del Monte $190K For Hazardous Waste

Law360, New York (September 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has slapped Del Monte Fresh Produce Co. with a $190,000 fine for improperly storing and handling hazardous waste and mismanaging used oil during the company's shutdown of its pineapple plantation on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

The EPA found open and unlabeled containers of hazardous waste and evidence of used oil leaks when it visited the site in August 2007, the agency said in a statement Thursday.
