E.C. Probes Gaz de France, Suez Deal

Law360, New York (June 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has decided to take an in-depth look at the proposed merger between French energy companies Gaz de France and Suez SA, after twice postponing approval of the deal.

The E.C. decided to launch an in-depth probe into the merger after deciding that the combination of the two companies “would raise significant (antitrust) concerns” in several markets, including the Belgian natural gas market.
