J&J Unit Scores $1.2B Judgment In Stent Feud

Law360, New York (October 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After a decade-long battle over its balloon expandable stent technology, a unit of Johnson & Johnson has landed a $1.2 billion final judgment against Boston Scientific Corp. and Medtronic Inc.

Judge Sue Robinson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware on Tuesday awarded the whopping damages amount based on jury verdicts in 2000 and 2005 that found Boston Scientific’s and Medtronic Vascular Inc.’s bare metal stents infringed Cordis Corp.’s Palmaz patent. The stents at issue are no longer sold.
