Doctors Urge FDA To Yank Children's Cold Meds

Law360, New York (October 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Doctors reportedly urged the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday to take children's over-the-counter cough and cold medications off store shelves until the agency can ensure that they are safe and effective.

The FDA should direct drugmakers to produce studies on the effects of their decongestants and other cold and cough medications on children before it allows the pharmaceuticals back on the market, doctors said in a daylong public hearing before the agency, Bloomberg News reported.
