EPA Settles Claims With Merit Energy, Shell

Law360, New York (October 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Merit Energy Co. LLC and Shell Exploration & Production Co. have settled with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over claims that the companies violated provisions of the Clean Air Act at a natural gas plant in Manistee, Mich.

The EPA had alleged that the companies continued to operate a natural gas processing facility in Manistee without installing required controls to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions after Shell made modifications that allowed the plant to process larger volumes of natural gas.
