Verizon's $400M VoIP Suit V. Cox Falls On Deaf Ears

Law360, New York (October 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Virginia jury rejected Verizon Communications Inc.'s claims that Cox Communications Inc. was liable for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for infringing six patents related to Voice Over Internet Protocol, and found certain claims of two of Verizon's patents invalid.

The jury handed down its verdict on Monday, following a two-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Verizon had asked for $400 million in damages, said Marcus Delgado, chief intellectual property counsel for defendant Cox Communications.
