Invitrogen Sues Oxford Biomed Over Protein Patent

Law360, New York (October 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Invitrogen Corp. has sued Oxford Biomedical Research Inc. and Vanderbilt University, seeking a declaration that it does not infringe a patent covering recombinant protein technology and that the patent does not cover technology subject to a licensing deal between Invitrogen and Oxford.

In a complaint filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, Invitrogen asked the court to declare that it does not infringe U.S. Patent Number 5,886,157, titled “Expression and purification of human cytochrome P450.”
