Global Carbon Market To Top $100B Barrier In 2008

Law360, New York (October 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The world’s carbon markets will exceed the $100 billion mark by the end of this year, growth that will reach $550 billion by 2012 and result in a $3 trillion-per-year turnover by 2020 if the United States introduces a European Union-style federal cap-and-trade system, British research company New Carbon Finance said Friday.

Global carbon markets grew by 81 percent so far this year and that growth is expected to continue through 2009 and beyond, driven by a combination of tighter targets in Europe, higher carbon prices...
