Employer-Sponsored Coverage Still Dropping: Study

Law360, New York (October 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The percentage of Americans receiving employer-sponsored health insurance has dropped for the seventh straight year since 2000, as only publicly provided coverage kept the number of uninsured Americans from rising from 2006 to 2007, according to a new study from the Economic Policy Institute.

In 2000, 68.3 percent of Americans received employer-sponsored insurance, but by 2007 that number had dropped to 62.9 percent despite a 1.5 million increase in the actual number of insured between 2006 and 2007, according to the report released Thursday.
