Gift Card Makers Sued For Violating Patents

Law360, New York (June 27, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Incentive industry leader Maritz Inc. filed a lawsuit Friday with the U.S. District Court in St. Louis, accusing three gift card makers of violating a pair of patents related to filtered cards.

In its complaint against the Interpublic Group of Companies Inc., Givex U.S.A. Corp. and Store Financial Services LLC, Maritz alleged that the defendants made, used and sold card systems covered by its patents.

“Upon information and belief, [the] defendants’ infringement has been knowing and willful,” Maritz wrote in court documents.
