Clean Power Plan Will Devastate Pa. Coal, Lawmakers Say

Law360, New York (November 17, 2015, 3:28 PM EST) -- Pennsylvania lawmakers and coal industry representatives vowed to fight the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan during a joint public hearing Tuesday involving members of the House and Senate coal caucuses, saying the regulations could devastate the state’s coal industry and economy.

In a state where, according to an industry coalition, the use and production of coal supports 8,100 direct jobs and 36,000 related jobs, industry businessmen and legislators whose constituents rely on coal production said the impact of new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations to curb carbon dioxide emissions would be grave.
