Scrushy, Former Governor Guilty Of Fraud and Bribery

Law360, New York (June 29, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The former HealthSouth Group CEO Richard M. Scrushy and former Alabama governor Don Siegelman were found guilty on Thursday in a bribery scheme in which Scrushy doled out $500,000 to Siegelman’s re-election campaign to gain a seat on a state regulatory board.

Siegelman was convicted on seven of 33 counts, including bribery, conspiracy and mail fraud. He was acquitted on racketeering, wire fraud, extortion, obstruction of justice and mail fraud charges. Scrushy was convicted on all six counts of bribery, fraud and conspiracy.
